Berries Goodman
Published in Hardcover by Smithmark Publishing (June, 1992)
Author: Emily C. Neville
Average review score:

Berries Goodman
I read this book when I was 10, and still remember the lessons learned from the story of Berries, his mother's jaunt into real estate, his family's response, Sidney's accident, etc. The civil rights movement was in its heyday when I read Berries for the first time. Berries brought the true lessons of the time home in a timeless manner. Berries still lives with me. Its lessons were timely then and it's timely now. I am now buying a copy for my youngest daughter, and I expect for it to become a life-classic for her as it remains for me.

Neville at her best.
Berries Goodman is a book that I read in my youth and continue to remember well into my adulthood. It is a story about courage and growing up as a minority in a world that is troubled by difference. It is a wonderful book for people of all ages and one that I will have in my library for my children. Don't miss this treasure. You will be happy that you have read it.

The Bible-Time Nursery Rhyme Book
Published in Hardcover by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (December, 1988)
Author: Emily Hunter
Average review score:

This is the best baby book I have bought!
We bought this book for my son before he was born (16 years ago). We have had so much fun reading it to all of our five children - and making up melodies to some of the verses - that we have purchased more copies and I hope to buy one for each of them to have for his/her own children. I now purchase this book for new baby gifts, and try to keep an extra on hand. I only wish that I could buy a case of them!

This is the BEST Bible story book I have seen for tiny tots.
I have been giving this book as a baby gift for 12 years now. This is the one book children keep asking to have read to them...over and over again. The author has kept true to the Bible stories but written them in such a way that children love to hear them. I understand that it is going out of print soon. That is a very serious mistake. There is NOTHING on the market to replace it. Think about that!

Blooms and Baskets Gems of Summer: Gems of Summer

Blooms and Baskets
This is a beautiful book with several patterns for detailed applique. The instructions are straight-forward and easy to understand. Several setting ideas are included. The flowers are beautifully detailed. This is the book I've been looking for! If you want to make a stunning quilt this is the book to buy.

Very realistic looking flower designs, great patterns
Try Emily's method for echo applique. Use this technique when you want to highlight a shape or pattern piece. You can stitch the narrowest little border using this technique. Great job, Emily.

Breathe Something Nice: Stories (Western Literature Series)
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nevada Pr (April, 1997)
Author: Emily Hammond
Average review score:

memorable
Seeing that Hammond has a novel coming out reminded me of this book of short stories, which I read when it was first published a couple of years ago. My memories of the stories in Breathe Something Nice are still vivid and disturbing, in contrast to not remembering a single detail from many of the books I have read in the interim. These are memorable the way short stories should be.

Great book! Loved every story!!!
I borrowed this book from a friend, and started reading it. I couldn't put it down, even when it got late! Each story has a new person of a new sex, age, and story.I recommend this book to anyone who likes short stories, and enjoys stories about being a human, no matter where you live or how old.

Brief Encounters
Published in Paperback by Doubleday (January, 1980)
Authors: Emily Coleman and Betty Edwards
Average review score:

Brief encounters - an excellent perspective
An excellent book which takes a positive & optimistic view of relationships that may not last forever. Designed for mature and experienced readers, with experience being IN a relationship, but forgetting how to START a relationship. First 1/3 of book helps the reader accept the OK-ness of the end of a major intimate relationship. The second 1/3 helps the reader identify him/her self as an individual, now able to pursue any dreams desired. The 3rd 1/3 of the book helps the reader start to confidently re-enter the outside world, with their now-clarified self-concept, in search of new (more compatible) friendships, acquaintances, and maybe loves.

Excellent Book
This book explains short term relationships between friends, family, lovers, and strangers. It explains why we need short term relationships and how to keep long term relationships by viewing them as a daily decision for a short term relationship. It is not about lack of commitment, lack of love, lack of anything. It is about healthy relationships

Business Capital for Women: An Essential Handbook for Entrepreneurs
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (19 June, 1996)
Authors: Emily Card and Adam Miller
Average review score:

A roadmap for getting money for business
From complicated terms such as "IPO's" to how to borrow from your family, this book takes you through the steps. The chapter on using networking to locate capital was really interesting, with little tips like marking the cards you get with the date and a note. My only complaint is that the book needs internet addresses. But the information in the back of the book listing resources is invaluable.

Even though I am a man, I found this book to be invaluable.
Starting a small business has been very difficult for me. Finding the answers I need to my questions has been a challenge. This book provided me specific, step-by-step information about how to obtain the money I needed for my business. Surprisingly, money was available for me, but without this book, I would never have found it. If you want money for your business, read this one-of-a-kind book.

The Christmas Gift
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (October, 1988)
Author: Emily Arnold McCully
Average review score:

pre readers books
This book is an excelent source for moms, teachers and any one who works with kids. The pictures tell an intricate story with out one word! What an excellent way to encourage a child to talk (speech therapy). The way each child interprets the story tells you so much more than words could (psychology). Emily McCully's books are too valuable to be out of print!!

Delightful wordless story of Christmas love
The mouse family enjoys Christmas Eve activities then up to bed! On Christmas Day the presents are opened, joy abounds! Off to Grandma and Pop-Pops and one little guy can't leave his Christmas gift behind. Ut oh, disaster strikes - but Grandma knows just what to do - Pop-Pop and the little guy venture into the attic and a long ago gift is passed down a generation. A story of Christmas joy, love and sharing told in a very special way. Just wonderful!

Chunky Safari Lion
Published in Hardcover by Barrons Educational Series (15 April, 2001)
Author: Emily Bolam
Average review score:

Double duty fun.
The whole series of these books is great. There are four in the jungle group and four in the farm group. My three year old son loves animals so much we had to get all of them. He has played for hours with these books, first reading them, then playing with the animals, then bringing them to me to read etc. They are pretty durable and stand up to a lot of play and reading.

Lotte's Lion
Lotte' daddy brought this little book home from a business trip to London. Ever since it has been her night-time pal in bed. She looks over page after page "talking" with the animals.

The book is marked as not suitable for children under 36 months because of small parts (the eyes are pasted on the cardboard face of the animal and could be picked off, I guess).

Lotte is 16 months old and giving me kisses as I write this review. I take it she approves of this book.

What I like about it is the repetitive formular ... the lion looks for the zebra and asks all the animals he finds on this "safari" if they have seen the zebra. The zebra is always hiding behind something and the child can help spot it. Since the question is always the same, children are able to relate to what they are supposed to do on each page.

The illustrations are cute and simple. The pictures are not overloaded in color and action. Yet there are those little things the child can point to and enjoy. Lotte is so proud when she can point to the zebra and help the lion.

For smaller children is is just as suitable as for older ones. There are four animals in the series: Lion, Elephant, Zebra, and Rhino.

I was going to order all four since they also make a great gift. Everyone who has small children and stopped by our house loved the book. One of the older children sadly had a fight over our Lion with Lotte and they tore it in two halves. A replacement is necessary and the reason for my visit at amazon.com :)

Enjoy the book and the smiling child that "reads" it.

Michael, Kristin and Lotte

Color 'Em Book
Published in Spiral-bound by Emily Rosell (01 April, 1999)
Author: Emily Rosell
Average review score:

The best developmental coloring book!
I have searced high and low for a coloring book that my children will just love even before they see the first page! I have found this to be true with Ms. Rosell's "Color 'Em Book." The contents are developmentally appropriate for both my toddlers. The kids enjoy it so much that they have convinced me to buy my own copy. This is definitely for both children and adults alike. Thank you for a wonderful and entertaining book, Ms. Rosell!

well thought-out coloring book (not just for kids)
A couple of good aspects to this book struck me. Firstly, the lines were thick - so there was more "elbow room" - kids don't always have the motor control skills adults have, so the thick lines are a little more forgiving. (Just try asking your 6 year old to draw a straight line free-hand). It's not a "franchised" book - in other words, it is not full of covert ads for Disney or Pokemon characters. Two other good qualities I noticed are the thick pages, making the 100-page book quite weighty (good), therfore suitable for markers, and a coil spine, so you can turn the pages all the way around and keep the book essentially flat. My daughter seemed to like that. I bought it for her for an up-coming plane journey. I'm having a tough time keeping her away from it.

Keeping your wits in an upside down world
If you are a teacher, counselor or parent, you need this book. It will help you deal with kids on a kid's level. It is filled with playful exercises that are both engaging and educational. And, as an added bonus, there are delightful illustrations from the kids themselves. As the author of The Healing Power of Humor, I've seen a number of books that have tried to accomplish what this book does. I know of no other that is so easy to use and so effective.

Thrival Manual for Kids in an Imperfect World
Emily Oldak has created an excellent "how-to" prescription for moving on and living for kids of all ages (including Mom and Dad) for today. Using her unique skills from the world of comedy improvisation, Comedy for Real Life--A Guide to Helping Kids Survive in an Imperfect World is just what any common-sense teacher or therapist would order.

I've know Emily through her excellent communicative skills for many years. Her delightful blend of humor, comedy and realism is a breath of fresh air for both adult and child. The book is loaded with activities, easy to read and digest and designed for rapid retention.

Kids will thrive with Emily and Comedy for Real Life--A Guide to Helping Kids in an Imperfect World as their guide.
